The Enneagram, Relationships, and Intimacy

The Updated 2025 Edition of “The Enneagram, Relationships, and Intimacy: Understanding One Another Leads to Loving More and Living More Fully”

Written by David Daniels, MD and Suzanne Dion, Enneagram Relationship Coach, Suzanne, along with David’s children—Denise Daniels, PhD and JD Daniels, PhD—are pleased to announce the Revised 2025 Edition with Morgan James Publishing.

MESSAGE FROM DAVID

This book addresses the powerful need we have—physiologically, emotionally, and spiritually—for connection, for love. Research tells us that we are “social” creatures and that our cognitive-emotional-somatic development is dependent on “love,” on consistent-enough “connection and bonding,” during our formative years. Without it, we flounder. We ache emotionally, and we struggle to potentiate, individuate, even to love freely.

Choosing to develop our “love-ability,” our capacity to give and receive love, is just about the greatest gift we can gift ourselves and others; it’s at the core of what sustains us and is a pursuit that I have come to cherish over all else. There are lots of books written on love; some great ones discuss secure attachment and plenty too have been written on relationships and how to make them better.

What we have brought to the table is my over 40 years of study as a private-practice psychiatrist (working primarily with couples), my 61 years of marriage, and my deep and comprehensive understanding of human temperament and personality proclivities—thanks to having studied something called “the Enneagram.” Of all of the treatment modalities I worked with and tried out across my therapeutic career, nothing came close to helping couples heal their hearts and relax their defenses as much as I witnessed happen when working with a comprehensive application of the Enneagram system. This is what this book is about. It’s what has been on my heart for years and what I believe I came here to share.”

About the Enneagram and Relationships Book

There are lots of books out there written about love. Some great ones discuss the importance of early secure attachment, and plenty too have been written about relationships and how to make them better. This book is a bit different. On behalf of Dr. David N. Daniels, Clinical Professor Emeritus Stanford Medical School, Suzanne Dion brings their shared personal passion for human development to the table along side David’s over 40 years of study as a private-practice psychiatrist (working primarily with couples), a 61-year marriage, and a deep and comprehensive understanding of human temperament and personality proclivities.

Thanks to having studied something called, “the Enneagram,” David says, “…of all of the treatment modalities I worked with and tried out across my therapeutic career, nothing came close to helping couples heal their hearts, deconstruct their defenses, and open receptively as much as I witnessed happening when using a comprehensive application of the Enneagram system.” Understanding ourselves as well as others—with acceptance, discernment, curiosity, and wonderment—in the way the Enneagram precipitates, provides the greatest foundation from which to build healthier, more receptive and more fulfilling relationships. It is our fundamental relationships that sustain our lives, fuel our happiness, and support our greater development and potential.

Bringing this book to fruition was the passionate focus of much of David’s time, exploration, and thought the last many years of his life and was an honor for Suzanne to see through to completion. Within it holds David and Suzanne’s endearing understanding of human relationships and a devotion to contributing to a more loving world. Learn about…
