It’s February! Have you been celebrating love?
This IEA presentation will focus on the work of IEA Co-Founder David Daniels, M.D. and the book he was devoted to writing at the end of his life—published in 2018 and newly updated in 2024—called The Enneagram, Relationships, and Intimacy. The book features three distinctive sections that are uniquely contributory as well as interdependent:
- our relationship with self is what sets the tone for all relationships with other
- the quality of our relationships—with others, partners, family, and coworkers—are critical to a fulfilling human life; and (3) how to enhance our ability to experience love and intimacy with a significant other.
“What tears us apart and what brings us back together?”
Suzanne Dion shares her experience of the last years of David Daniels’ working life and how applying the content and process found in The Enneagram, Relationships, and Intimacy conveys David’s lasting vision of a more loving world, one that begins with deeply loving human beings in loving relationships with one another.

- What tears us apart? What brings us together?
- The conditional love of type and how it impairs our ability to love
- The 5As for development and practice—Awareness, Acceptance, Appreciation, Action, and Adherence
- The 27 instinctual personality subtypes and how they impact the Enneagram and relationships
- The nine Enneagram types and sexuality—nine ways we either diminish or enhance intimacy and fulfillment
Come away with a greater understanding of why David said, “In all my years of practice, nothing has come close to the Enneagram of Personality in saving, healing, and developing relationships.”
Experience in yourself as well as gain a deeper understanding of David’s thought-leading Basic Propositions, which describe how each Enneagram type’s foundational core organizes around the loss of something deeply essential within, and how that loss is subsequently held together by each type’s sense of self and its particular and protective Defense System.
