The Palmer Daniels Enneagram Professional Training Program (EPTP) – Now The Narrative Enneagram (TNE) Training Programs

The Narrative Enneagram Training Programs are of great significance to David Daniels. David and co-founder Helen Palmer were pioneers in bringing rigorous training classes, workshops and intensives to the avid students worldwide.  From its early days, founded in 1988 to today, thousands of students have enrolled in the curriculum and training they founded. The Narrative Enneagram United States: Chronological History

Program Name Organization Name
1984: David Daniels and Helen Palmer meet when David attends a course at Palmer’s Center for the Investigation and Training of Intuition in Berkeley, California.
1988: Founding of the Palmer Daniels Enneagram Professional Training Program (EPTP) based on teaching the narrative tradition where types speak for themselves. The Authentic Enneagram, then shortly after renamed The Trifold School of Enneagram Studies (a for-profit operated by traditional mail and phone calls)
1993: The Association of Enneagram Teachers in the Narrative Tradition (AETNT) was founded as a non-profit. Note: The AETNT was not a teaching program but an association to support teachers who completed certified in the EPTP. It was later shortened to Enneagram Association of Narrative Teachers (EANT). AETNT and later EANT registered as a non-profit association.
2005: Renamed the Enneagram Studies in the Narrative Tradition (ESNT) Enneagram Worldwide, offered through enneagramworldwide.com
2014: ESNT continues ESNT registered as an educational non-profit, operates through enneagramworldwide.org
2018: ESNT and EANT merge and now offer programs through the new organizational name: The Narrative Enneagram (TNE) ESNT and EANT merge to become The Narrative Enneagram (TNE), offered through thenarrativeenneagram.org

In addition, The Enneagram Professional Training Program was also founded in Europe by Jeanette van Stijn to carry forward the work of Helen Palmer and David Daniels.

The Narrative Enneagram Europe: Chronological History

  • 2004: founding of Enneagram Nederland, by Jeanette van Stijn, the Dutch Enneagram School in the Narrative Tradition.
  • 2006: Enneagram Nederland, becomes a Licensed Affiliate of Enneagram Worldwide, authorized to teach the EPTP.
  • 2007: first Dutch-language Enneagram Intensive, with Peter O’Hanrahan travelling from the U.S. to supervise and support the formal handover.
  • 2010: founding of Enneagram Europe in the Narrative Tradition, the beginning of the UK/Ireland teachers team.
  • 2024: Enneagram Europe continues as a Mystery School in the Transformative Tradition.
The Palmer Daniels Enneagram Professional Training program was founded on the principles of:
      1. Learning the Enneagram through the narrative tradition where Enneagram types speak for themselves, observing or using their inner witness to report on their thoughts, attention, emotions, motivations, and somatic sensations
      2. Bringing rigor to the curriculum and certification of teachers

The Mystery School in the Transformative Tradition Europe

To sign up for the Enneagram Intensive (based on the original Palmer-Daniels Enneagram Professonal Training Program) or the Summer Enneagram Teacher's Retreat, please visit Enneagram Europe. Both programs are offered in person at retreat centers in Europe.
    1. TNE provides wonderful material, much of which David had contributed over the years. Since its inception in 1988, David had espoused the value of the Narrative Tradition where individuals speak about “their type” for themselves, often in “Enneagram type panels,” where each person shares their knowledge and experience of themselves, with an attending, studious audience. To do this, TNE has been the forerunning developer of a deep process of inquiry, exploration, and is an open forum for the sharing of Enneagram types understanding. The Palmer Daniels Enneagram Professional Training Program was the first training program of the modern Enneagram, and David co-founded this program with colleague Helen Palmer who learned the Enneagram system from Claudio Naranjo in Berkeley, California in the 1970s.
